Supporting well-being in communities through partnership and connection

Communities play an important role in shaping health and well-being. The spaces people gather, the relationships they build and the resources they can access all influence how well-being is experienced in everyday life.

PowerUp partners with community organizations, local groups and leaders to create opportunities that make well-being more accessible, approachable and meaningful. Our work is flexible and responsive, supporting communities in ways that reflect local needs, priorities and strengths.

Supporting food access in communities

Everyone deserves equitable access to nutritious, affordable food to nourish their bodies and support overall health and well-being. Healthy eating can improve quality of life and lower the risk of many health conditions, but for many people, accessing nutritious, affordable food isn’t easy. Barriers can look different depending on where people live, work or life circumstances.

Access to food looks different across communities, and needs can shift over time. PowerUp provides resources and connections to local food programs, to help make healthy, nutritious food more accessible and within reach for everyone.

This includes HealthParners’ leadership role with SuperShelf, a statewide initiative transforming food shelves to make healthy foods available to all. Collaborations with other food shelves and community organizations also support environments that reflect dignity, choice and connection.

Our work continues to evolve as we listen, learn and respond to what communities need and support meaningful solutions.

Connecting People to Nature & Communities.jpeg

Connecting people to nature and community spaces

Access to safe, welcoming spaces – both indoors and outdoors – plays an important role in supporting well-being. Parks, trails and natural areas offer opportunities to move, explore, connect and recharge.

PowerUp partners with community organizations to support access to these spaces and create opportunities for people to experience and connect with nature.

This might include supporting community events, encouraging time spent outdoors or partnering with local organizations to create spaces where people can gather, move and connect. These experiences can help support physical and mental well-being while strengthening connection to community and the natural world.

Supporting youth-serving adults

Adults play an important role in how kids and teens experience and learn about health and well-being. At the same time, many adults are navigating changing information and expectations around food, movement, mental health and more.

PowerUp offers tools, resources and connections to support youth-serving adults in showing up in ways that are informed, supportive and aligned with what young people need today.

This might include access to practical resources, guidance on everyday conversations or opportunities to learn alongside others. Our goal is to support adults in creating environments where kids and teens feel safe, supported and able to explore well-being in ways that fit their lives.

Outreach and Community Events.jpg

Outreach and community events

PowerUp participates in events as a way to connect with community. Our outreach is designed to be interactive, approachable and fun to engage with. Whether it’s a community festival or local gathering, we create opportunities for people to explore well-being.

This might include engaging games and activities, sharing resources, offering ideas to try at home or in the community, or simply creating space for connection and conversation. Our goal is to make well-being feel accessible, relevant and fun in real-life settings.

These moments also help us listen and learn from the communities we serve, shaping how we continue to grow and respond to community needs over time.
